On July 1st, 2023, Cole Craven, one of our talented HQP’s, traveled to Lisbon, Portugal and participated in the 2023 IPA/SEPG Joint International Congress. He represented our team as one of the Virtual Reality developers on the VR SIM Carers project.
His presentation focused on "An Aging-in-Place Solution: Dementia Caregivers Skills Training through Virtual Reality (VR-SIM CARERS)”. As the primary developer of the virtual reality simulation at that time, Cole provided incredible insights into our design principles and objectives. Attendees expressed a keen interest in our project's engagement characteristics.
Particularly, they were impressed by the high-fidelity graphics, innovative methods to reduce motion sickness, and the depth of user interaction and movement within the virtual environment. Our initiative to make older adults comfortable using Virtual Reality as a tool for dementia caregiving was a main point of interest. He explained that our project would feature a series of roadshows to introduce participants to VR headset usage along with detailed documentation. Additionally, he spoke about how our scaffolded learning approach allows users to select from a range of dialogue options to explore various caregiving methods while providing valuable feedback on their selections.
Presenting at the conference in Lisbon was an enriching experience for Cole, allowing us to showcase our project's innovations, receive valuable feedback, and connect with like-minded individuals committed to advancing healthcare through cutting-edge technologies.
We continue to refine our project and explore collaborative opportunities in the exciting realm of healthcare simulations. Since those early prototypes, we have made significant progress in our developments. Although the project is still a work in progress, we have implemented many noteworthy changes and improvements
Thank you for following our journey. We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress and sharing more about the VR SIM Carers project soon!
